Hi,
I’m preparing for a major surgery called a Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO). This is a complex procedure used to correct hip dysplasia and stabilize the hip joint. Without it, the condition can continue to worsen and eventually lead to severe joint damage and early hip replacement.
Living with this condition affects my daily life in ways many people don’t see. Simple tasks like standing too long, walking longer distances, or getting through a full day without pain can be extremely difficult. The pain and instability in my hip often force me to plan my day around what my body can handle, and pushing through normal activities can leave me completely exhausted.
After consulting with multiple specialists over the past year, this surgery was recommended as the best path forward to protect my hip joint and improve my long-term mobility and quality of life.
Because PAO surgery requires a specialized surgical team, we need to travel to the Bay Area for treatment. We will need to stay there for at least 1–2 weeks for pre-operative appointments, the surgery itself, and immediate post-operative monitoring.
Recovery from PAO surgery is extensive and extremely painful. It involves strict weight-bearing restrictions, limited mobility, and months of rehabilitation. While I have already missed a significant amount of work this past year, the early stages of recovery will take a further toll as I will be unable to work while my body heals.
My wife, Angie, will also need to take time away from work in order to travel with me and help care for me during the initial recovery period. Between the two of us missing work, along with travel, lodging, medical costs, and our typical household bills/expenses, the financial impact is significant.
Funds raised will help cover:
• Travel to and from the Bay Area for surgery
• Lodging during the 1–2 week surgical stay
• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Post-surgery medications, medical equipment, and recovery supplies
• Lost income while both of us are unable to work during this time
This surgery is an important step toward improving my mobility and being able to live without constant pain. Any support, whether through donating or sharing this page, means more than we can express.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting us during this difficult chapter.
