Community support for Gurpreet and Kuljeet

Donation protected
On the evening of Sept. 2, Kuljeet Kaur was to have a late dinner with her cousin and close confidant Gurpreet Sangha, at Gurpreet's place of employment Indian Spice. No one could expect the evening to turn so tragic. At approx. 11:30 pm Gurpreet and Kuljeet were waiting for the evening bus when they were both struck by a motorist at the bus stop on Cleveland Ave & Pemberton Ave. The vehicle flipped onto the sidewalk, striking both women and crashing through the chain link fence behind them. The person driving fled the scene. RCMP are pleading for witnesses to come forward to help with their investigation. A person connected to the vehicle was located and questioned nearby on the evening of Sept 2.

Gurpreet fought hard but succumbed to her injuries 2 weeks later. Because she was here on a working visa her Husband and 2 children remain in India. Gurpreet’s Canadian family is now trying desperately to bring her husband and children, Tejinder (age 14) and Shub (age 17) to Squamish so they may lay their mother and wife to rest. Her family intended to relocate to Squamish so they may be closer to her parents and siblings, now those plans have been halted due to this horrible situation they find themselves in. Gurpreet was a hardworking, loving wife, and mother. She was always smiling and full of light. No one ever expected her life to be cut so short.

Kuljeet came to Canada to visit her mother, brother, and other family members here in Squamish and was planning to return to her husband and daughter on Sept. 29th in India. Unfortunately, due to her injuries, she must remain in Canada. She is currently recovering from surgery and will still require another surgery to repair her collarbone. Her normal active lifestyle has come to a crashing halt. Kuljeet is known as a loving mother, sister, wife, and daughter. She dotes on her family, but now she must rely on them for the most basic needs, such as standing and walking. Because she was set to return to India on Sept. 29th her travel insurance policy will not carry her forward from that date. Lakhbir, Kuljeet's brother, has been in contact with her insurance provider and they will not cover her beyond Sept. 29th. Any medical treatments that Kuljeet requires, including the surgery to correct her collarbone, will not be covered. Kuljeet's family will have to pay out of pocket for all her medical, prescription and rehabilitation cost. No family should be stressed by supporting a recovering loved one and trying to figure out how to pay for the medical costs.
Please consider helping these two loving families navigate this trying time. Any money raised will be shared between the two families to cover any costs that arise from this horrible, tragic incident.

Thank you!

On behalf of our friends the Sangha-Gill family and the Kaur-Saran Family here in Squamish B-C.

Edited to Include updated information Sept. 30/22
The families have agreed that because of the sensitive nature of this situation, Kuljeet's brother should manage the funds on behalf of both families at this time.
The money we have raised will be used to bring Gurpreet's children and husband to Canada for her funeral. The funds will also help offset any funeral-related costs that her Squamish Family incurs.
The funds will also help support Kuljeet's recovery costs and any medical expenses not covered by her Travel policy that expires today. Kuljeet is still waiting on her 2nd surgery and has now been informed by her Doctor that she can not travel for a minimum of 3 months.
Kind Regards,
Steph and Sam
