Hello, my name is Amy and I am a nurse advocate for disabled and elderly patients in Medicare. I was first introduced to this family to help them obtain in-home care as Diane suffers from long-term complications after a leg injury 4 years ago, including multiple surgeries and hospitalizations, and a 4-year battle with an open wound. The process of in-home care is very difficult for families that cannot afford assisted living but also cannot get basic needs met. Diane was approved in September of 2025 after multiple medical assessments and continues to be on the waiting list in the state of Indiana for funds to become available to help her. She was recently approved for an electric wheelchair but does not have funding to get a ramp for it to come into the home. Diane is in desperate need of help with funding for disabled modifications so she can live as independently as possible. Diane is widowed and receives a $118 monthly pension after her husband worked for US Steel for over 30 years. One of our friends and community members needs our help and support for basic needs to be met. Diane is thoughtful, joyful, and would never ask for a penny. I am hoping our community will rise to the challenge.
