Hello, my name is Heaven, and I am writing on behalf of my mom, Chanti.
I am reaching out today because, as much as I tried not to take this route, it has become necessary.
On January 27, 2026, we experienced a devastating house fire that left us with absolutely nothing. Two of our dogs were trapped inside and tragically lost their lives. For those who know my mom, you know she helps anyone and everyone—she will give her last without asking for anything in return. This all happened because she opened our doors to help a former handicapped patient who had nowhere to go during the cold.
My mom ended up providing for this woman both financially and physically out of her own pocket, without receiving a dime. This woman had absolutely nothing, and I watched my mom work tirelessly to care for her while also caring for my elderly aunt.
My mom originally obtained this house, remodeled it, and petitioned the courts to have my aunt removed from a nursing home after experiencing extremely poor care and the state attempting to take control. She took on full financial and physical responsibility to ensure my aunt was safe and properly cared for.
Once I graduated, I was able to help with both situations. However, on November 6, 2025, my aunt was hospitalized due to a dialysis issue, which led to further complications and eventually life support. This required my mom to be at the hospital constantly. Even from the hospital, I watched her continue to handle finances, maintain her business, and care for both the woman and my aunt.
Of course, I stepped in to help because if you know my mom, you know she does not ask for help and tries to handle everything on her own without telling anyone.
On January 27th, while my mom was at the hospital, she received a call from our neighbor telling her to get home immediately. I had just left to go to the gym after making sure the woman was okay in her room.
After I left, it appears the woman got up to smoke a cigarette, likely near our door because it was cold, and may have flicked it without fully putting it out. We believe the cigarette may have caught onto a tarp or a TV box that was on the porch.
I believe this is how my mom’s dogs died. The cigarette likely took time to ignite after she returned to her room. The dogs were probably barking, and she locked them in my bathroom, not realizing a fire had started.
My mom called me from the hospital after hearing from the neighbor. When I arrived, I saw my house in flames and ran over asking if the lady was out and where my dogs were. I called my mom, but I was crying so hard I don’t think she fully understood me.
She FaceTimed me, saw what was happening, and rushed there immediately. She began vomiting and hyperventilating. Ms. Kiddie had to calm her down after she learned her dogs were gone, the house was destroyed, and nothing was saved. She has been in shock since, barely speaking and constantly crying.
Due to the winter storms and her emotional state, I decided to do whatever I could to help.
I am asking anyone who knows my mom, Chanti, and her giving heart if you are able to help me help her. She has done so much for others and has always put herself last. Even if you are unable to help financially, a prayer, a share, a contact, or any form of support would be deeply appreciated.
