Community Matters: For the Music, For the Healing
Donation protected
For my 30th birthday, Facebook prompted me to set up a fundraiser (as it does for all users). Honestly, I hadn’t given it much thought until last night.
While visiting Great Wagon Road Distillery, I unknowingly stumbled into their Open Mic Night. A young man took the stage and began performing “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. If you know me, you know I immediately perked up when those first familiar, beloved notes drifted from his guitar, followed by his voice that quite literally gave me chills. It was one of those rare moments when someone’s energy and talent moves you, even if you don’t know them personally.
After his performance, it was shared that he’s preparing to undergo brain surgery for a condition called Chiari Malformation. Next week’s Open Mic Night will be accepting donations to help with the cost of his healing journey.
That moment stayed with me. And I thought, what better way to use this birthday fundraiser feature than to support someone right here in my community who could use a little extra help?
So, instead of raising money for a large organization this year, I’m hoping to collect whatever I can to contribute directly to his recovery and healing journey. If you feel moved to give, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Here’s to turning 30 with purpose, gratitude, and a little more humanity.
