When I first moved to NYC back in the early 2000's I was quickly introduced to the force that is Nita Aviance at a club in the East Village - Opaline. I followed her through the years at Mister Black/Tubway, Westgay, The Carry Nation, and even to the suprise of my younger NYC self, had the opportunity to collaborate with her over the years. I've always been inspired and enamored with her loving energy, care and devotion NYC nightlife, and her ability to be mother/mentor to many.

More recently, I've seen her evolve and align with her true self, which has been such a joy. In this process, Nita is facing some incredible costs and recovery time for some long awaited gender affirming surgery. In a recent conversation, she was expressing unease around asking for help. I say, after all she’s given - it’s time for us to give back!

So I ask, where would NYC & the global queer dance music scene be with out THE Nita Aviance? How have you felt the beneftis of her contribution? How would your NYC experience be different if she didn’t pour her heart into everything she does? I can guarantee she's given you life on the dancefloor, worked hard to create welcoming spaces for you to turn it, given motherly advice, a good laugh and/or even a fierce look - sometimes at the expense of herself!

The funds raised will go to cover costs for gender affirming surgeries and living expenses for 2+ months off. Let’s help her with comfort and stability and as a community return the support and care of her current and future beauty she's sure to serve.
