I’m here asking for community support for our neighbor Carie Monica Oliver, her husband Andrew, and their 3 girls (14, 17 and a young adult) as they are navigating the incredibly difficult journey of ALS.
This family has been battling this horrific disease for years and is facing a new, scary, and challenging reality. Carie will be undergoing surgery in January to get a trach and ventilator. A world that she knows so well, as she was a nurse specializing in children needing these devices to live.
I lost my dad to this dreadful disease this year and understand the reality and devastation that ALS brings. It progressively takes away all of our abilities, and with that comes extreme challenges and horrifying costs of medical equipment. They just had to purchase a Hoyer lift last week as insurance only covers this device once every 5 years. This disease is ruthless and takes away one’s ability to walk, talk, eat, and now for Carie, breathe on her own without the help of expensive and complicated medical devices. The one thing ALS does not take is the mind. Carie is sweet, kind, talented, so loved, and so special. She’s worked hard to raise awareness of this awful disease in our community.
ALS is devastating in every way imaginable, and sweet Carie maintains such a positive outlook and is working so hard to stay strong for her girls and family.
This family could really use the support of our great community. They are so deserving of our love and compassion as they are in the midst of this really, really difficult battle.
Thank you for your love and support. They are so grateful.
