Joan Vachon was recently diagnosed with terminal stage 3 lung cancer and this news came very unexpectedly. She went from working & volunteering in this community, taking care of others but has suddenly lost her ability to work due to the cancer treatments. The treatments required to extend her life are extremely expensive even with insurance. Co-pays, deductibles, gas, transportation, it all adds up and she has lost her entire income. We are reaching out in hopes that our community, the community that Joan has served for 30 plus years, will remember all she has done and help out. Joan has always been the helper. She has always been the one that is giving to others, whether that has been her family, extended family or her community. Joan developed a program to give Veterans free haircuts in the Rochester, NH and Lebanon, ME communities.
As stated by Commander Patnode in the Fosters Daily Democrat in 2009:
Commander Patnode had praise for Vachon.
"It is a great, great gesture by this young lady. A very good idea and nice to give up her day off. Maybe it will spur others in the community to help our veterans," he said.
Our mom now more than ever needs our help. Please share this GoFundMe page with everyone you know. So many people know our mom but may not be aware she desperately needs help. Even a few dollars from each person she has impacted in this community would be so helpful.
