Dearest friends of Ashley, Linda and Sid: we are raising money to help cover any care costs in connection with Linda Menzies' ongoing fight against uterine cancer. Prayers and well wishes are also ALWAYS welcome and appreciated. Please see longer description below. <3
---------------------------------
To know Ashley is to know her mother, Linda. Like Ashley, Linda is kind, cheerful, confident and loving—someone undeniably special. I first met Linda during our first year of law school, and she immediately struck me as someone you’d want on your team. I don’t know how else to explain it. Her warmth and joyful spirit radiate a maternal energy that makes you feel loved just by being in her presence.
In March, I was lucky enough to visit Ashley and her family in LA. You could sense the amount of love in her parents' house the moment you walked in. Pictures of family and friends cover almost every wall of that house (note: there were approximately five pictures of Ashley for any one picture of anyone else). The house was cozy and felt like home thanks to her parents’ warm welcome. I felt fortunate just to be there—we all meet friends as adults, but we rarely get the chance to visit their childhood homes. I learned so much about Ashley during that visit, but what stood out most was her unmistakable bond with her mom, a relationship full of respect, admiration, laughter and a shared zest for life.
A few weeks later, Linda was diagnosed with stage 4 uterine cancer. In true Menzies fashion, even though the cancer has taken its toll, Linda’s spirit remains steadfast and optimistic. And of course, Ashley, Linda’s mini-me, followed suit and continues to practice gratitude and rely on faith in the face of mounting personal and professional responsibilities. I still don’t know how Ashley does it. It’s like her mom’s beautiful perspective on life and love has unknowingly prepared her for this very moment. Still, the circumstances feels indescribably and overwhelmingly unfair. Anyone who has been through something similar understands that.
That’s where we come in. Linda has now officially moved home for full-time hospice care, where she will be surrounded by the love of her incredible husband, Sid, Ashley, Ashley’s grandmother and other friends and family. As you can imagine, hospice care is incredibly expensive. We want Ashley and her dad to spend zero time worrying about money—instead, we want them to spend all of their time loving up on Linda and taking care of themselves.
If you’ve ever been touched by the loving, generous nature of Ashley or her family, we’d be incredibly grateful for any donation (big or small) to help alleviate the cost of care and support Ashley’s family during this difficult time.
Love, Lizzi D.
With the incredible, loving help of Leena, Ari, Emma, Isis, Katie, Kezman, Kristin, Morgan and Titi.
