Jose Carmona is someone that ALWAYS helps everyone else. Now he needs our help.
Jose hasn’t been able to work since April 19 due to a inguinal hernia that has continued to get worse, given his job (Safety and Security at Longs Peak Middle School). Due to a shortage in the education industry he found himself working 8 hours straight, most days with no breaks and walking over 6 miles. Finally he had no choice than to take a medical leave of absence as it continued to get worse. He had surgery on May 3 and is doing ok, but it’s going to be a long recovery due to the fact that he had such a large tear. He won’t be able to go back to work for at least six weeks. This will also affect his food truck business. For the last 5 years he has owned and run Liquid N2 Ice Cream AND organized the local food truck rallies.
Jose helps provide for his wife of over 25 years, Mercedes (a school counselor) and his 4 children. His oldest child was adopted and his youngest suffers from autoimmune disease and is on the autism spectrum.
This surgery has really hurt the family finances. The out-of-pocket expense for surgery is $3,800. This is in addition to his lost wages since April 19 and will continue through mid June.
If you know Jose, then you know he is a person who does anything for his community. At the school he works at, he not only provides the students safety and security, but encourages and empowers the middle schoolers to give themselves opportunities to thrive in life. He listens and understands a lot of their problems since it’s very similar to how he grew up. He has created many bonds with students that don’t have a role model in their life; believing in them and encouraging them to do something in their life, whether it’s been through sports or helping with their grades. They miss seeing him every day.
I can personally attest to his kindness, because when my son passed away last summer, even though Jose and I barely knew each other, he offered to come to my son’s celebration of life and gave away more than 400 cups of ice cream for free. He cared enough to ask about my son’s favorite flavor, and when he didn’t have it, he created it and named it after him (Ben’s Mint Cookie flavor).
This is the kind of person Jose is. He CARES. Now he needs our help. Please, if you can spare a couple dollars, I know that together we can give back to this man who’s given us so much.
Thank you so much,
