Community Emergency call for Rhizome’s housing

Donation protected
Last year, after careful planning, Rhizome went through a huge and daunting move leaving the home shared with their children and their children's other biological parent. It was all complicated by a prolonged job search, a no fault eviction, many health challenges, and a launching teenager. After overcoming and settling into a new life, they have successfully created a stable, peaceful home not only for their youngest child, but a safe haven for other youth in the community who need a warm meal and place to be.

Now Rhizome is facing another unforeseeable challenge: their landlord is selling the home during the dead of winter and is requiring tenants to vacate by January 31, 2026!!!

When previously apartment hunting, Rhizome did their due diligence to verify that each landlord was planning to retain their property as a rental unit. Unfortunately, the landlord of their new home was not honest about his intentions. Now Rhizome’s family is paying the price.

During such a hard time of year, with some of the harshest weather, Rhizome is starting over–again. This means yet another apartment search–with negotiations, deposits, applications, movers. After that comes the incredible work of re-stabilizing their family.

Additionally, the housing market in their city is extremely exploitative, discriminating, and terribly expensive even for multiply-privileged people. For Rhizome and their child, who are both multiply-marginalized and do not have extra assistance, the outlook is bleak.

The Legion of Hags invites you to come together in solidarity to keep them off the streets and to rebuild the safe, loving home for Rhizome to heal and their teen to thrive. We aim to provide funds to cover first and last month’s rent, deposits, moving expenses, food, and disrupted income during this period of transition.

Please understand that making a donation to this fundraising campaign will be a direct contribution to keeping an LGBTTQAI2S family alive and off the street. This is an act of intentional community and life retention for this dedicated Black anarchist, intersectional feminist.

As we reach our hands out to each other with offers of support, we recognize that so many people are facing housing insecurity, food, and job insecurity. Securing housing and employment are vital goals that extend to everyone. We must take care of one another.
