Community Effort: Safe Car for Single Mom and Son
Donation protected
My name is Scott Schmeckpeper. Most of you know me and my heart for single moms. It is one of the toughest jobs in the world!
I need your assistance to help a single mom get rid of the rolling wreck she and her son drive every day. Last Saturday, our church, New Covenant Church in Tyler, Texas, did a single mom's lunch and car wash/service for our community. The picture is not of the car but of the same model. She is driving a 2002 Kia Rio, which is ready to fall apart on the next bump!
She had been afraid to open the hood as it was stuck half open on the safety catch. Well, we did open it and found a half inch in the brake fluid reservoir and 2 quarts low on oil. Trying to close the hood, the latch bent and punctured an A/C line. We closed it up as best we could. We gave her money to get it looked at so the church could fix the A/C line.
She had a mobile mechanic look at it. He gave an estimate to repair the A/C. Soon after, it got worse as the hood of the car flew up and off with the hinges broke. In my opinion, even with the line fixed and a junkyard hood replacement, I would not let anyone in my family drive that car! It needs to be junked!
My simple goal is to raise as much as I can this week to buy her a good used car. Nothing fancy, just something safe!
If you can, please donate this week to help. The more I get, the better used car we can buy. If you have a good used car you want to donate, we can do it through the church. Send me a message with any questions.
