Help Build A New Animal Shelter and Sanctuary in the RGV
Donation protected
When I first came to The Valley 3 years ago, one of the biggest concerns from the community was the stray dog and cat population. Most, if not all, of the shelters in the area are and have been at and over capacity for YEARS, causing euthanasia rates to be very high. Despite efforts from local animal rescues, shelters, advocates, and community members that care, the issue still persists.
In order to help with this big problem in the place I now call home, I am offering some or all of the vacant land I own in Mercedes (12.5 acres) to build a new shelter/sanctuary, and of course offer spay and neutering services at low costs.
Ideally, this would be a partnership between either cities, current organizations, rescues, and/or Hidalgo County to help fund the operation (build/purchase the facility, hire staff).
The ultimate goal is to spay/neuter every stray dog we can, vaccinate, and give them a forever home instead of being euthanized at a local shelter.
From what I'm understanding, there are many people willing to volunteer their time, materials, and even to donate to a new animal shelter…but as far as one particular organization looking to expand to a new location, there is none at this time.
There are, however, organizations and people willing to partner and help make this thing happen.
After speaking with dozens of people for guidance and getting some estimates, I've decided to move forward in building one on my land. Several of you reached out to donate, so here's your chance.
Donations in this first phase will go directly towards the following:
- Clearing 2 acres of land to start
- Fencing
- Electricity
- Water well filtration system
- Affordable large barn-like structure
- Kennels
- Mini splits
- Spay/neuter costs
- Vet costs
- Dog/cat food
If you or anyone you know may be willing to directly donate some of these items, that would be great too.
If I lease the barn-like structure, I think we can make this happen with $5000, and start taking in these fur babies by April.
I can also accept cash, Apple Pay [phone redacted], Facebook Pay in Messenger, or Cash App.
The land I have is more than enough space to make this a comfortable home for these animals with the option and space to run free and not be cooped up in kennels all day.
Please spread the word to every organization, city official, rescue, or anyone you think is capable of helping make this happen for the helpless stray animals of the RGV. I will be doing the same.
I did go ahead and create a non-profit name for this, Earth Life Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary.
Thank you to all the organizations and people that said they're willing to help bring this to life.
I can be reached at [phone redacted] or by email [email redacted].
