Hi, I'm Michelle Meyers (formerly Schneider). I created this page to help my 79-year-old father, Dave Meyers, rebuild his life after losing everything in a devastating flood in Wrightwood, California.
My dad is a stroke survivor who has already endured more than most. He survived two massive strokes and lives on a fixed income. Last week, a severe storm hit Wrightwood, and because the area is still a burn scar from last year’s fire, the flooding and mudslides were especially dangerous.
My dad’s rental home filled with nearly three feet of mud and sediment, and one of the walls was blown out. The home has since been condemned. He lost everything except the clothes he was wearing and his phone.
On Christmas Eve morning, firefighters were pounding on his door. When he woke up, his bed was floating in nearly two feet of water. They were able to get him out safely. Several hours later, my son braved the floodwaters to rescue my dad’s three cats who were left behind.
This isn’t the first time my dad has experienced loss. He was already displaced by flooding earlier this year, but this time the damage was total.
Right now, Dave is staying temporarily at the home of friends who are out of the country. This housing is not permanent, and we urgently need to find him a safe, stable place to live while replacing the most basic necessities he lost. Winter conditions in the mountains make this especially time-sensitive.
How the funds will be used:
• Securing safe, stable housing (first month, deposit, utilities)
• Replacing essential furniture, clothing, and household items
• Medical and mobility needs for a stroke survivor
• Supplies and care for his three cats
• Basic living and transportation expenses during relocation
Dave has lived in Wrightwood for many years and is a quiet, independent man who tries not to ask for help. Asking now is not easy, but it’s necessary.
We have been incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community in providing emergency shelter and support. Any contribution, share, or kind word helps us move closer to stability and safety for my dad.
I will post updates as we secure housing and begin rebuilding so everyone can see the impact of their support.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us during this incredibly difficult time.
