Community Care for Ricky in Brickell
Donation protected
hello!
My name is Ashley Floyd, I am a resident of Brickell here in Miami.
If you’ve ever walked by the bus stop across from Crema in Brickell, you may have seen Ricky—always kind, soft-spoken, and quietly asking for spare change. Ricky has been living in Miami for the past three years, though he isn’t quite sure where he was before. I was behind him in the line for sandwiches at Publix together, he may be dealing with a memory disorder and a tremor that may be linked to Parkinson’s or a similar condition.
While I was chatting with Ricky in line, I offered to buy one for him too. He politely declined—he had his own money and was proud to pay for it himself. He shared that he watches what he eats: avoids sugar, keeps his sodium low, and sticks to white meats. That moment really stuck with me. Despite everything, Ricky maintains a deep sense of dignity, pride, and care for his health.
With F1 weekend bringing an overwhelming display of wealth and excess to Miami, I thought it was the perfect time for our community to come together and show kindness where it really counts. Ricky shouldn’t have to worry about his next meal or where he can rest safely.
It would be really amazing to come together as a community and make an impact, no matter how big or small, for someone who is a quiet but present part of our neighborhood and help provide Ricky with access to meals, basic essentials, and support. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so, so much for helping care for someone who deserves so much more than being overlooked.
