Hi all, I'm Jana, and I'm organizing a fundraiser on behalf of my dear friend, Amanda Moreno, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Amanda is an astrologer, teacher, writer, and soul worker who's devoted the better part of her life to helping people. She's a beloved member of many PNW communities, and one of the most radically brave, loving, brilliant human beings I know.

If you know Amanda personally too, you're probably aware that this is not her first but her second journey with cancer. In her 30s, she was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer that required extensive surgery, which cured the cancer but led to multiple chronic health issues as well as an additional surgery to repair a complication from the first. In December of 2025, after months of increasing fatigue and vague symptoms, she was diagnosed for the second time with a different form of cancer.

As you can imagine, it's been incredibly destabilizing for her, especially in this collective moment when life is already precarious. Amanda is facing another invasive surgery with a substantial recovery period. Although stage IV cancer has been ruled out and initial CT scans do not show evidence of spread, she won't know whether or not more treatment is required until 1-2 weeks after surgery.

Cancer is not cheap, nor is the cost of living.

Though Amanda was able to secure financial aid for her surgery and genetic testing, she's already accrued over $1,000 in medical bills since December. She's facing down multiple doctor's visits, treatments, and ongoing care post-surgery. And she'll have to cancel upcoming client bookings and take (unpaid) leave from her business in February and March, while she's recovering from surgery. Her ability to make income in April will be limited as she will need to catch up with sessions she had to cancel.

As a self-employed single person who manages practically every part of her life solo, the added stress of dealing with cancer in this moment is tremendous. The upcoming inability to work means community support is essential in this moment so she can rest, recover, and return to her life healed and well.

I'm setting our initial fundraising goal to $8,000, which will cover Amanda's existing medical debt, the bulk of February and March living costs, and medical bills not covered by financial aid or insurance while she is subject to her deductible and out of pocket max. This cushion will aid her during her recovery so she's able to rest and heal without the added worry of making ends meet.

If further treatment is needed, Amanda's current plan is to try to see clients, teach and launch new offerings through it. It is possible this campaign will need to be expanded, however.
