Community Based Farm Building.

Hi, My name is Lisa and with my husband Tom and 12 year- old daughter we own and operate The Lone Duck Farm in Saugerties N.Y., the Heart of the Hudson River Valley. We both grew up in this area, and I am a proud Saugerties native. We purchased our property 5 years ago, a beautiful historic piece of land just on the outskirts of the Village. At the start of the pandemic, my husband and I both lost our jobs but quickly turned it into a surprising success story. We started a farm. A completely diverse working farm where we grow over an acre of nutritious vegetables, maple syrup, and honey, raise heritage pork, pastured meat chickens, and have over 500 laying hens with a moveable coop. We also adopted two sweet cows, goats, turkeys, many (many) ducks and an emu. We started selling at the local farmers market within months and have established ourselves in the community as a reliable source of locally grown food. We now operate a 20-member CSA, attend as many markets as we can stretch ourselves and live the farm life as full-time as possible. All this with zero experience, just the will to do the work and the excitement to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. We're so proud of how far we have come, and of our beautiful space we just want to share it with as many people as possible. This is where the crowdfunding comes in. This community needs a place where people- families, can visit and see what a small, diverse, family run farm is. We built this business, just the two of us from the ground up and have invested every ounce of money, time and energy into it. There are no investors or bank loans, and we're pretty proud of that. We need a building- a multipurpose space that can be used for classes (gardening, beekeeping, butchering, canning, foraging ect.), workshops, seminars, movies, Farm yoga (Goat Yoga anyone??), paint and sips, live music, school groups, farm camps, and the list goes on and on. We need to find additional revenue streams to keep this farm growing strong. We also need proper roadways, electric, and plumbing. If you've been here- and many of you have, you know the feeling you get. It's magical, and a rare gem in this area. We have the skills, tools, and determination to get it done- we just need the working capital to get it started. This area is on the brink of losing most of its farmland to developers- help us keep it as agricultural as possible.
