Fierce, ambitious, compassionate, diligent, empathetic, generous! These are a few words that come to mind when you think of Denise.  She has always been a strong independent woman. She will fight the cause with all her might even when her own body is struggling on a daily basis. The word “NO” has never been in her vocabulary.

I met Denise in 2002, in a courthouse, while working with a family. Denise was short in stature, but tall in courage and determination! She was court appointed to the youth I was working with.  At the time, I didn’t know just how lucky we were to have her on our team.

Denise was born with spina bifida, a birth defect of the spine.Doctors told her parents to institutionalize her, but they did not.  Schools put her in special education classes with children whom had learning disabilities, though she had none. Her parents fought for her! They taught her that she was capable of anything, and she proved them right!

Denise, having lived “the fight”, went on to becoming one of the most sought out educational advocate. This is not just her job, it’s her PASSION!

Denise has now been doing this for 20 years,  helping over 5,000 families, many of them unable to pay, yet that never stopped her from supporting every family she encountered.

Recently, Denise has undergone several surgeries to help continue her independence but, unfortunately, each surgery has slowed that independence.  This has left her unable to walk on her own, or even  continue to drive.  Denise has helped so many people in her lifetime, including the adoption of her children whom have significant trauma and learning disabilities.

I’m hoping to raise enough money for her to purchase a car with the modifications she needs to drive on her own. Denise deserves to enable to go out into the community she once was able to, to attend school meetings in person, continue to train agencies on Special Education Rights, to go to the grocery store, and to be able to leave her house.  All of the things you and I take for granted are now a daily struggle for her.  She used to be like you and me with all of her independence, but not now...

Denise has helped so many people, and now I am hoping you can help people will want to help her!
