In our first year as a robotics program, our 12 middle school students won the city championship tournament, won the Maryland State Championship skills tournament, and qualified for both the national open championship and the world championship. Unfortunately, current concerns around travel mean our middle schoolers will not be able to participate in the world championship, where we feel confident we would have been competitive with the other best teams in the world.
Our Cinderella season saw our teams go from completely inexperienced to one of the best teams in the country in a single year. And while our thrilling first season came to an unexpected end due to travel restrictions imposed due to safety concerns about travel by the district, this is only the beginning for robotics at Commodore John Rodgers.
Our focus has shifted to preparing for next year. We plan to continue growing the robotics program at Commodore John Rodgers and providing even more students with these opportunities. To accomplish these goals, we need to raise money to support next year’s teams as they once again work towards competing on the international level. The funds raised here will cover tournament registration fees, robotics equipment, team uniforms, lodging and travel at competition events, and more.
