**UPDATE** Here is the most recent photo of Ken's dad, Stan, looking out over the area where their house once stood.
The most important thing is that each member of the family is safe and currently stationed at Ken and Kim Commerford's apartment which has been cleared since the initial evacuation earlier this morning. Despite making it to safety, the material loss experienced is unfathomable.
I had the privelage of working alongside Ken Commerford for close to 5 years at Genentech during which time I was fortunate enough to meet his family. To say that they are some of the most genuine, generous, outgoing, and kind people anyone could hope to come across wouldn't be an exaggeration.
At this time, our long-time colleague and close friend, as well as his family, could use some help. Control of this GoFundMe page will be fully transitioned to Ken Commerford and his family as a means of helping them cover the essentials including food, clothing, supplies, etc until they are able to get things sorted with the insurance companies covering the house, cars, and property that was lost to the fire.
***Update: Ken has been made the sole beneficiary of the funds that have been received thus far as well as any that will continue to come in. Thank you to everyone for your help on behalf of myself and the Commerfords.
Ken also shared a few pictures of his father, Stan, brother, Kevin, and nephew, Austin, in some of the new clothes they were able to get since leaving the house with just what they had on their backs (see below):
I am also gathering donations of food/water, hygiene items, and clothing in like-new or new condition at my desk station 858201-3 in Building 85 of the Gateway Campus at GNE. Anthony C. and myself will be headed up to Santa Rosa on Saturday morning
(Oct. 14, 2017) to deliver everything gathered over the week to the Commerford's and help with trying to salvage anything from the remains of the house.
For those of you who have other items that you would like to donate clothes or supplies to the greater Santa Rosa and Napa communities that have been affected by the fires, you are welcome to contact me to coordinate a pickup and I will transport the donated items to the centers or families of your choosing.
I can also offer a ride to anyone's friends or family members in the affected areas of Santa Rosa back to the Peninsula or SF on Saturday evening. There will be a total of 4 available seats in my SUV on the return trip. Willing to help transport pets that may need temporary relocation as well.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
