On January 18, 2026, our dear friend Mike Thomas and his beloved dog, Otto, tragically lost their lives in a house fire in Hollywood. This devastating loss has deeply impacted so many in our community. We love them both and will never forget the positive impact they had on our lives.

Another part of this tragedy, less visible but deeply felt, is the loss experienced by Sirenne Sanchez, who lived in the back ADU attached to the house. Although her unit was not physically damaged by the fire, in a single day, her life changed completely. Sirenne was left to pick up the pieces with the help of her friends.

She lost not only her home, where she found peace, but her best friend, who she called family. In the midst of devastating loss and ongoing bereavement, she had to relocate and begin facing a future without Mike.

As Sirenne works to rebuild her life, she will incur significant and unexpected relocation expenses and would like to seek grief therapy to process the trauma of this sudden loss. While she has temporary housing, she must secure a permanent place to call home in the near future.

Mike believed in taking care of the people he loved. He would have wanted Sirenne, who he considered his sister, to be supported during this unimaginable time. By coming together for her, we reflect the very spirit Mike lived by.
