Coming together for Coach Sabens and Ms. Donahue

Hi, I’m Jane. Friday night, my sister Jennie’s boyfriend Tyler lost everything in his beachside rental home in the massive fire on Minot Beach in Scituate. Tyler and Jennie both work for the Whitman-Hanson school district, and Tyler is the head coach of the Whitman-Hanson High School boys' varsity lacrosse team.

My family got word Friday evening that there was a fire on the street where Tyler had been renting a beachside home. After a frantic drive to Glades Rd. Jennie realized the home was part of the massive fire. When Tyler arrived they spoke with fire officials, the Red Cross, and countless other people well into the night and over the course of this weekend. Since neither of them were at the house when the fire started they were not able to take anything with them. Since Friday night, they have found that nearly all of their belongings are not salvageable either from fire or water damage, or covered in soot including their clothes, furniture, and electronics. The house on the beach they both loved so much is now gone.

While thankfully there were no injuries to anyone involved in the fire, and Tyler and Jennie already have another place to stay, they need to replace so many things they lost.

Even though they are still processing the emotional pain of what happened, both Tyler and Jennie continue to have positive attitudes and understand the greater picture that no one was hurt, and that belongings can be replaced.

They are both passionate educators and care deeply about both the Whitman-Hanson community they work in and the Scituate community they are so fond of. They also have a wonderful support system of family and friends, so there is no doubt they will get through this.
