Coming Alongside the McClure Family
Donation protected
Hi Friends,
Dan McClure has spent his life giving to others – as a beloved teacher, a visionary non-profit leader, a passionate pastor, and one of the most caring and generous people we know. He has often unabashedly raised money for people in need or for organizations serving people in need.
Well, now it’s our turn to come alongside him and his family by raising money for them.
THE STORY
In October 2017 Dan was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic cancer and given 3 months to 2 years to live. But with his usual gusto, faith, heart, and soul, he has defied those odds and is thankfully still with us more than 4 years later. Indeed, for most of the time since his diagnosis, he continued to teach, continued to preach, and even wrote and published a book about his cancer journey!
Unfortunately, a few months ago the symptoms of the disease worsened (increased pain and decreased energy) and Dan made the very difficult decision to leave his job teaching at San Jose State and to step down as Lead Pastor of Palo Alto First Christian Church. The church has graciously continued to pay his salary through the end of the year. But as the McClure’s look ahead to January, they have realized that Annette’s salary and Dan’s disability payment won’t cover their monthly expenses.
Annette had considered finding another part-time job, but she is also the only driver in the family now and both Cayden (age 12) and Sierra (age 14) have many activities that require daily shuttling. More importantly, those of us who love the McClure family don’t want this time to be spent frenetically or burdened by stress.
THE FUNDING GOAL
Our goal is to raise enough money to easily cover their expenses for one full year, giving the wonderful McClure family the time to focus on what’s important right now: their family, their relationships, and Dan’s health and wellbeing.
One year of supplemental living expenses is $125,000 (for those of you who don’t live in the Silicon Valley, we realize this may seem high. But here in the nation’s most expensive market, it’s actually a modest cost of living for a family of four.) So that is what we hope to raise.
THE ASK
There are several things you can do to come alongside the McClure family right now:
1) Contribute to this campaign – during this season of giving, we hope many of Dan’s friends, family members, colleagues and acquaintances will make a generous financial contribution towards our goal of helping to alleviate their financial burdens and be able to focus on what’s important.
2) Share this campaign via text or email with anyone you think may be moved to contribute. PLEASE NOTE: for now, Dan and Annette would prefer to keep this more personal than public, and so we are not posting this to social media and would ask that you not share that way either. But personal emails or text messages to your friends and family are most welcome!
3) Pray! Like Dan, we believe in a God for whom ALL things are possible… even miraculous healing! So we invite you to continue to pray for a miracle as well as for their daily provisions.
THANK YOU and BLESSINGS!
The McClure's are immensely grateful for the many people who have and will come alongside their family in various ways over this season. May you be richly blessed for your generosity and kindness!
With gratitude and hope,
Team McClure :-)
