Hi and thanks for visiting my fundraiser for Comfortably Floyd Official. Most of you know me from TikTok from my live immersive Pink Floyd music show that has about 33k followers. The show features performances on various guitars, sax, keyboard, and vocals combined with synchronized lights, lasers, and video projected onto a brick wall that looks like the album cover of "The Wall".
This fundraiser has 3 small goals to help keep shows going and improve its production capabilities. Two of them (heater, projector) are for replacement/repair of items that have recently broken down, and one (video monitor) is for advancing the tech capabilities of the show. Most urgently, the space heater needs some major repairs to keep things going past mid-October.
$193 Video Projector replacement for broken one
Specs: 7200 lumens, HD Contrast 10k:1 or higher
$50 Repair Studio Space Heater. (Gotta have heat!)
$200 Replace disintegrated chimney pipe for space heater
$300 2nd Monitor for 2nd video for cues
$747 total for all
This show is performed in a room of a building that has not been fully renovated. The studio room, used exclusively for shows, is the only room in the building with electrical outlets and any heat source. The space heater installed 2 years ago has gotten a lot of use keeping the shows going during the cold months from October to May. Since it is not used 24 hours a day, it burns pretty hot while using the studio, especially in winter.
The 7200 lumen HD video projector is used about 3+ hours every day for years in a foggy, smoky room that has wide temperature changes. After it finally gave out in mid-August, I tried repairing it unsuccessfully. I plan to replace it with a new (open box) version of the same model since the features of 7200 ANSI Lumens, 1080 resolution, and 100,000:1 contrast ratio are incomparable at this price range. The video projections are a major part of the show's productions. For now, I'm using an old backup low-resolution projector that looks terribly out of focus.
To improve the flow and flexibility of the shows, I would like to get a small video monitor, and if needed, a video router. This would be used to transmit a 2nd separate video that sends me all my cues and reminders, similar to a teleprompter. Currently, I use an iPad for this purpose and have trouble syncing up the iPad with the laptop that controls the video, audio, and lighting software. An external monitor that would accept a separate signal from the laptop will enable me to have both things in sync all the time. The best part for fans of the show is that this will eventually enable me to select and start any song from my setlists with everything already synced together. That will reduce time in between songs when going from one request to another. Once that challenge is overcome, I can move to even more automation with keyboard patches, pedalboards, etc.
I'm hoping that just adding a simple monitor, with its own power source vs. power from laptop USB-C, will accomplish this goal. I will try that first, then reduce the fundraiser goal if that's all that's needed. If not, I have already explored various video port add-ons as well as an eGPU that would be used to take the video processing strain off the laptop.
Most importantly, just to keep the shows going, the heater and projector are first priorities, followed by the 2nd video monitor to improve the shows. Thank you for reading and supporting this show.
