Hello my name is Elaine Mears. As many of you know my step son Trevor Mears has been living in a nursing home in Nanuet New York for the last three years. Trevor has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and was put on a vent three years ago. Before Trevor's disease progressed he was fitted for a brand new wheelchair. He picked out the color and they fit it perfectly for him. As we got told the Wheelchair was ready, Trevor got covid and became unresponsive and was intubated. We were later informed that he was pretty much aspirating when eating and unfortunately Trevor was never able to breath 100 percent on his own. He is requiring being on a vent with 40 percent oxygen.

With all that said, Trevor's wheelchair has become very uncomfortable for him from being so old and run down. We have tried different seat cushions but he just can't get comfortable. We have also had the facility try a geri chair but again something that is not working.

For the past few weeks Trevor has not gotten out of bed. If you know Trevor this is really making it hard for him knowing he already struggles living at the facility. (Yes we have tried to find home care for three years and no luck)

I have tried to build a tilted wheelchair that I think might be comfortable enough for him. The problem is the cost is 2700 and medicaid won't help since supposedly the nursing home is suppose to provide for him.

In conclusion, we as a family are just looking for alittle bit of help to provide Trevor with something that might be alittle more comfortable for him. Anything at this time would be greatly appreciated.
