On the 31st of December, at 21 weeks and 4 days pregnant, Melinda began experiencing intense pain while at work. I rushed to pick her up and take her to the ER. The doctors informed us that she was in preterm labor, already 7-8 cm dilated. At that early stage of pregnancy, there was little they could do. Despite the overwhelming circumstances, Melinda remained strong, enduring the pain as best she could, holding on for as long as possible.
At 22 weeks, we received some hope when doctors were able to administer steroids to help the babies’ tiny lungs develop, giving them a better chance at survival.
On January 5th, Melinda gave birth to two beautiful babies: Alice Serenity Hernandez and Logan Santiago Hernandez. Alice, so fragile and small, passed away at 8:54 AM, just 9 minutes after her birth. Her tiny heart couldn’t make it past 52 bpm. We did everything we could to save her: 3 shots of emergency epinephrine, and ultimately chest compressions, but after much suffering, I had to stop the compressions, allowing Alice to peacefully pass in her mother’s arms.
Logan fought on longer. His heart was strong at 101 beats per minute, but his oxygen levels never reached a level that would give him a chance at a normal life. He was given life-saving measures as well, but ultimately, like his sister, he left us. At 9:54 AM, Logan passed away in his mother’s arms, next to Alice.
Alice and Logan shared a womb for 5 months, 1 day, and 8 hours. They came into this world together, and they left it together, but not before being showered with love and the care of their parents. Now, they are wrapped in the Lord’s eternal love and grace.
Though we miss them deeply, Melinda and I take comfort in knowing that Alice and Logan are now with the one who will love them more than we ever could—our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They left this world only knowing love, and they will forever know His agape love.
The Hernandez family is grieving the loss of their precious twins, Alice Serenity Hernandez and Logan Santiago Hernandez. These sweet souls fought with strength and courage during their brief time with us. Alice and Logan will forever be loved and remembered, but as the family navigates this difficult season of loss, they are also facing the financial burden of memorial services for their babies.
Any amount of assistance, no matter how small, would be deeply appreciated and will go directly toward honoring their memory and giving them the respectful and loving farewell they deserve.
Your support means the world to the Hernandez family during this heartbreaking time.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, love, and prayers.
