Rama’s Story
Rama is a beautiful FIV-positive rescue cat who spent much of his life surviving outdoors after being abandoned and left without proper medical care. For over a year, I quietly fed him outside alongside another rescue cat named Tuxy, until one day Rama showed up extremely sick, lethargic, and struggling to breathe. That moment changed both of our lives. After bringing him inside, veterinarians discovered that Rama was FIV positive and suffering from severe stomatitis so painful that nearly all of his teeth had to be removed. Since then, he has become a full-time indoor cat, living safely, warmly, and deeply loved.
Recently, Rama began showing subtle changes — eating less, losing weight, and licking litter from the mat near his box. I trusted my instincts and rushed him back to the vet for extensive testing. His bloodwork revealed devastating news: Rama is now in the advanced stages of FIV, including severe bone marrow suppression causing critically low white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. At this stage, treatment options are limited, and our focus is now on comfort, quality of life, infection prevention, nutrition, and keeping him surrounded by love for whatever time he has left.
Today’s emergency veterinary visit alone was a significant expense, and ongoing care, medications, follow-up visits, supportive treatments, and comfort care are becoming overwhelming financially while I continue caring for multiple rescued animals and managing my own health struggles. Anyone who knows me knows my animals are family. Rama is not “just a cat.” He is a soul who survived abandonment, pain, and illness and still wakes up every day wanting love, sunlight, soft blankets, and cuddles by the window. I cannot change his diagnosis, but I can make sure the rest of his life is filled with dignity, comfort, safety, and love.
If you feel led to help Rama, whether through donations, prayers, or simply sharing his story, it would mean more than words can express. Thank you for loving this sweet boy with me.
