Supporting my father Jeff Rettig’s Home Care & Dignity.
My father is fighting Stage 4 terminal lung cancer. After spending time in hospice, he made the deeply personal choice to spend his remaining time at home. As his only child and sole caregiver, I am doing everything in my power to honor that wish, but I have reached my breaking point.
MY REALITY.
At 35, I never expected to be a 24/7 nurse, but that is my reality. My father is now bedridden. Every day consists of changing soiled linens, doing endless rounds of laundry, and physically rolling him over every few hours to prevent painful bedsores. I am the one who brings him every meal, manages every medication, and provides all his personal hygiene care.
Because this is a round-the-clock job, I am unable to work. I am doing this entirely on my own with almost no outside help. The physical toll is immense, but the financial toll is becoming impossible. We are struggling to keep up with:
Medical Supplies: Incontinence briefs, wipes, skin barrier creams, and specialized bedding.
Basic Utilities: Keeping the home warm, clean, and powered.
Nutritional Needs: Easy-to-digest meals and supplements for my father.
To ensure that I can stay by his side without the constant fear of eviction or losing our utilities.
My goal is to make sure my father’s final chapter is defined by comfort and love, not by the stress of poverty. If you can contribute even a small amount, it would allow me to breathe for a moment and focus on the only thing that matters: MY DAD!
If you can’t donate, please share our story. It means the world to us.
