We are a team of eight girls and one boy, from ten to thirteen years old. We have been competing for five years now, and this is our most successful season yet. This year we finished first in the Kingston Regional competition in November, then placed first in the Eastern Ontario Provincial championships in January. Along the way we were featured in the Whig Standard, our local newspaper; on GlobalNews.ca; and were interviewed on CBC Radio.
One other unique experience our team had was helping an FLL team form Puerto Rico get back on their feet. We were able to raise money to get them a generator, and even recieved an email from them, explaing how thankful they were. We also gave a rookie team some tips to get their season started.
In April, we will be representing Canada at the World Championships in Detroit. To this point, we have paid for our season with fundraisers such as a garage sale, and school spirit days. Our trip to Detroit however, is going to cost a lot more than any previous event. We will need to pay for travel to and from Detroit, accomodations for the week of the competition, and other miscellaneous things like food. Aditionally, we will have to cover the cost in US dollars. Our goal is to raise $12,000 to help cover all the costs. We are counting on you to get our team to the World Championships this April!
