Hi my name is Amy and my rescue dog Comet tore her CCL ligament and needs surgery.
The CCL is an important ligament inside the knee joints of dogs. I have taken her to two vets and gotten her ex-rayed and examined. The estimate for the surgery is $4,000 to $5,000 not counting pain meds and an 8 week recovery time. They remove part of the bone and reposition the knee.
Comet is a very, very sweet dog. She is only around 4 years old and has a long life ahead of her. She was abandoned as a puppy but luckily found a loving home. She has a big backyard and two other dogs to (hopefully) play with again. We really love her and want her to get the surgery she needs to walk and play again. Any amount you can donate is appreciated and will go directly to Comet's medical bills. If for any reason I raise too much money, I will donate any extra to the local pet shelter in my neighborhood which is the East Valley Shelter of Los Angeles.
Comet is currently on pain meds while I try to find a surgeon who is able to help her. As a side note to those who are asking, we don't know how it happened. We think maybe she hurt it playing with the other dogs. We noticed a limp that got worse and worse and so we took her to the vet.
Thank you so much for helping Comet. She really is the biggest sweetheart of a dog and I love her very much.
Update on Comet. As a few of you mentioned, often with pit bulls they have a genetic condition that causes both of the knee joints to rupture. Unfortunately that is the case. I just dropped Comet off and she is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning. The cost of the surgery is close to $9,000. ($8906.84) And there will be after care expenses. I used my credit card so she can get the care she needs. If you are able to donate any more it would help. And please keep her in your thoughts tonight and tomorrow. Thank you everyone.
