Hiya I’m Shannon, a 25 year old screenwriter originally from Donegal. I am shooting a self-funded short film on Tory Island in the coming months. It’s a comedy about two mismatched TV licence inspectors who come to lawless Tory Island for the first time in the island’s history.
I moved to Tory to pursue my writing, giving up the privilege of a Dublin salary. So to be honest I’m fairly broke but adamant to make the most of the incredible storytelling, humour, locations and also actors this remote island has to offer.
Donegal County Council have awarded me €1,250 towards the creation of this short as part of their Artist’s Bursary Scheme. However the cost of equipment, food & accommodation for crew, props, an editor etc. are far beyond that for making a film. For my last self-funded film myself and my friend totalled a cost of approx. €2500 - and that was a much shorter script, shot predominantly in one prime location over two days - with many favours called in!
