I’ve been on an incredibly emotional and exhaustive journey with my best friend over the last 9 weeks. I have been by her side at appointments and in her lowest moments, and have personally witnessed her fight through this storm that no one should have to experience. It all started at the beginning of February, when she discovered a lump in her breast. After multiple mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and long waiting periods, she has been diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time.

She is a hardworking, loving, single mother to two beautiful daughters, 16 and 4. She works three jobs to make ends meet sometimes working 12 hour days and weekends, and does whatever it takes to make sure her children do not go without. Unfortunately she has already had to miss multiple days of work due to doctors appointments which has caused quite a financial strain. There are more missed days of work to come as she needs more diagnostic testing which will then be followed by surgery and recovery time as well as treatment. There have been out of pocket expenses and will be more, not to mention the outrageous cost of gas that is needed to get back and forth to medical facilities and hospitals. Other travel expenses and costs associated with specific treatment options that have been discussed, are not covered by insurance. The most important thing is that Shayna & Josie’s mom, has all the time and the resources to get well.

She is a strong woman of faith and knows that God will get her through it all. However, the financial stress of it all has been overwhelming. I am taking it upon myself to ask for donations to assist her and her family during this difficult time. I believe if we are able to come together to support her, we can lighten the load so she does not have to worry about how she will afford to get by the next couple of months or longer depending on the outcome and road ahead.
