In January 2017, our mother was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer.  We were led to believe the cancer was treatable by surgically removing two tumors, 8 lymph nodes, (2 were positive with cancer), and undergo 8 rounds of chemotherapy with 33 rounds of radiation.  Her team of doctors gave her a 93% survival rate of 15 years.

The surgery did not provide clean margins around the tumor sites.  It was then necessary to undergo a second surgery to remove any lingering cancer if it existed.  The second surgery was deemed to be successful.

During the chemo treatments, she had most of the side effects that were listed as possibilities.  They were brutal.  After her 5th round of chemo, she had an emergency admission to the hospital with a 103.5 fever due to “bottomed out” white and red blood cell counts and platelets.  My mother was given high doses of IV antibiotics, hydration fluids and a blood transfusion.  One week after hospitalization, she was back to the remaining rounds of chemo.  Two weeks after her last chemo treatment, she then began radiation treatment that ended in late October.  Her health was improving and she was feeling great.

Throughout the six months of treatments, her blood work consistently showed elevated liver enzymes. In November, an MRI and biopsy determined that the breast cancer had metastasized to the liver, creating a stage 4 condition.

She was advised to contact a leading cancer center in Boston for a second opinion.  After meeting with them, their review confirmed the original diagnosis.  The doctors said they have no cure for the cancer she has and can only offer “Band-Aid” solutions.

WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THAT DEATH SENTENCE.  We are determined to fight on as a family to cure this disease and sustain her quality of life.  We have discovered other forms of treatment that have already shown improvements to her health.  However, these treatments are very expensive and her insurance does not cover them.  Our parents are living on a fixed income and we are asking for your help.  If you are led to assist us, we would be most appreciative.

OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $50,000 FOR EQUIPMENT AND TREATMENTS

THANK YOU, AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
