‘Raw Head an’ Bloody Bone' (RHBB) is short film directed by Learenna A. Reynolds & produced by jellystone robinson.

RHBB is an amalgamation of all the beats & stories told in D'angelo's Sophomore album, Voodoo, that tells the story of his life at the time. This story speaking to what had been visiting him (D'angelo) in this new transit of life, and the fame that met him not long before. The story is based on the themes of spirituality, love, sexuality, maturation & transition in alignment with the themes of what we aim to leave with you, 'Raw Head an' Bloody Bone'.

[Logline]: Raw Head an' Bloody Bone is a cautionary tale that follows a man (Angelo) who, to naked eye, has two choices but many reveal in his journey of choosing & meeting folks along the way that speak to one direction or another.

In this film, we call in D'angelo's creative spirit & the spirit that lives within us to be in concert to create a piece that not only illuminates him, but the story being told for us. We want to encompass the intimacy of his music & the era Black consciousness through which he was birthed, by reimagining this work. To live well & make home in the 'world-building' business that he invited us into with the makings & fruition of Voodoo, by making pieces for the original score of RHBB. Through songs like Chicken Grease, Devil's Pie, The Root, & (Untitled) How Does It Feel, while containing the whole body of work - we want to create that somatic experience of a story being told in sweet melodies.

By exploring the folktales that kept us alive - we intend to offer healing & play to ourselves, and our communities through this offering of creativity in this time of massive cultural & indigenous destruction. African American Folk-takes & Story-telling has been a staple practice deeply rooted in how we communicate, and support one another in bearing witness to our own.
