Hello! My name is Sara Elizabeth McNeal and I am the writer and director of the upcoming short film, Come Back Home. I am a rising senior at Liberty University majoring in Film Production. As film students, we are given the task to write, direct, produce, and edit our own self-funded short films for our senior thesis projects. These films will be shown in the spring of 2024 at the Senior Cinematic Arts Showcase. It is such an amazing opportunity and I am beyond excited to begin this filmmaking journey. I am truly passionate about this project and I am thrilled for you all to be a part of it!
While production begins in early October, the pre-production process has already begun! Producing a film requires a significant amount of planning, work, and time. It also requires financial resources. In order to bring this story to life, I am going to need help and support from my family, friends, and anyone willing to give. Your donation would mean more to me than just financial aid… it represents a belief in my abilities and passion for storytelling. During all phases of production, many costs are needed to keep the project moving forward.
So where will your generous contributions be going? Here’s a brief summary:
- Cast and Crew Compensation - While some cast and crew will be students volunteering their time and talents, others will be hired.
- Location Fees - A rate can be charged depending on the filming location.
- Props, Wardrobe, Hair/Makeup, Production Design - The look of a film is greatly determined by the art and production design quality! This will play a huge part in the visual look of the film and make my vision come to life.
- Food - Craft services is one of the most expensive aspects of a film. Making sure all cast and crew are fed and hydrated is vital for any set! A well-fed crew = a happy crew :)
- Music Licensing/Music Composers - Music and sound are essential for a film. It is important to invest in composers who can create music that will enhance the story of your film.
- Marketing and Distribution - Creating posters, flyers, etc. will help in the marketing of this film! After the premiere, I will be submitting my film to film festivals. Festivals require entry fees.
There is so much that goes into making a film which shows why I need your help and support in this endeavor. You might be wondering what the story is about. Here is a synopsis of my film:
Come Back Home is a mystery-drama that revolves around seventeen-year-old, Chloe Gates, and her mother, Nicole Gates. Throughout the film, Chloe navigates relationships with her friends and family. Feeling like she isn’t enough, she confides in all the wrong people, one being her “best friend”, Maeve. After Chloe’s mom demands she comes home from a party, Chloe has a strange encounter with a man in a rabbit mask. Chloe and her mom have a huge argument that night. The next morning, Nicole is nowhere to be found. Mysterious clues lead Chloe to believe something horrible happened to her mother. Does the man in the mask have something to do with it? While Chloe searches for answers, she learns who truly cares about her and returns home to a family that needs her most.
