On Saturday September 7th, 2019, my nephew Colton, was involved in a hunting accident that took his life, but thankfully his angles worked to bring him back to us. After many hours of blood transfusions and stabilizing him in Silver City, New Mexico, he was transferred by ambulance as the weather was too bad to fly him out, to the hospital in El Paso, Texas, where he continues to be in critical condition. Colton sustained injuries to his right lung and to his cervical/thoracic spine and vertebra. While he is alert at times and does recognize people, he remains on the ventilator and will have many challenges ahead. At this time the focus is on his breathing and fighting infections. From there, we will know what will be needed to help him walk and move again.
Colton is blessed with four parents who love him and have not left his side, living hours away from their homes, jobs, animals, and other children who also need love and support through this. The rest of the family (and friends) are traveling on average, two-five hours, to be there and support them as much as possible. Many have already given much support in terms of housing for the immediate family, but Colton will be in El Paso for many weeks. The funds will be used first and for most to help pay Colton's living expenses prior to the accident, his medical bills, and then supporting the family to be so far away from home. Colton will continue to have many more medical costs after he leaves the hospital and all remaining funds will go into an account to support him and his family as he moves forward.
Colton is 20 years old with much life ahead of him. He has a girlfriend, siblings, and many others who love him and want to spend quality years with him. As you can see, he was very active and has a great smile! He recently was able to mouth to his mother "I love you" over the ventilator tube. Please help us hear him say it out loud for many years to come.
Deborah Berry is Colton's aunt as she is listed as the beneficiary to withdraw his funds for him into his account.
Colton' s favorite bible verse is John 3:16- "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." May he find comfort in this prayer still and thank you in advance for any kindness, prayers, and support that you can give.
