Colquhoun & McCarter DNA Project
Donation protected
My name is Tiffany McCarter Evans. I am a Colquhoun and McCarter Family historian. I descend from both of these lines. It's why I started researching and running a DNA Project helping Calhoun testers and McCarter Testers find where their family lines come from and how they are related.
We are a research team of 15 Colquhouns that are running a YDNA and Autosomal DNA Project on Family Tree DNA and Ancestry DNA. Proving how all of our lines connect. We each have DNA confirming we are all Colquhouns of some spelling. If you have received one of our Y700 Kits for testing and want to help out someone else to test. Please donate...No gift is too small. We could test men from more lines.
Our Facebook Groups: So you can follow our progress. Along with seeing which lines we have confirmed and which ones we are trying to confirm with DNA and documents.
These groups are for anyone who has an interest in Colquhoun and McCarter History. We welcome everyone from any of the branches of these two clans.
My story is I am the 5th Great Granddaughter of Moses and Catren McCarter of Bart Township Lancaster County PA and Abbeville SC.
Through DNA I know they were related and 2nd cousins. This caused quite the confusion with records and lack of them. One sure thing was when our Y-DNA came back we weren't showing as McArthur or McCarter. We were showing as Colquhoun's.
Thus my journey started....Our goal is to raise enough money to take our Colquhoun DNA Database which currently has 44K Colquhouns and McCarters and put it on its own server. So I am fundraising to help raise some of the cost of a Software Engineer and to have the Website created. The Funds from this go fund will pay for new Y-DNA Kits and Ancestry DNA Kits. That way no one has to pay to participate in this DNA Project. I would like to keep it that way. It will also fund moving our Family Tree Database onto its own website and server. It will be a searchable Family tree available for researchers to see if their Calhoun or McCarter lines have been mapped out for them.
Over the last 3 years, I have been able to test over 40 Calhoun and McCarter men. Along with over 50 Men and Women on Ancestry DNA. I provide these kits free of charge and pay to upgrade the yDNA kits to Y-700 Kits. By fundraising, I will have the opportunity to test even more Colquhoun's and McCarter's.
By fund raising, I can keep the cost down for testers or be able to continue paying for them. So that anyone who wants to be tested from these lines then they can.
Ancestry Kits range $49-$99 Depending on the Sale
Family Tree DNA Y-DNA $119 Y-37 $329 for the Y-700 Upgrade.
What we have found out with DNA research:
James Patrick Calhoun Sr who married Catherine Montgomery was James Calhoun VIII of his line. His line does not descend from Rev Alexander Colhoun Sr of Crosh House. But are related. Hugh Calhoun is his brother. They also had a brother named John P Calhoun or he was a 1st cousin. Their haplogroup is - E-M35 - E-FTA41789. This is 7th Vice President John C Calhoun's paternal line. It just didn't descend from where some researchers said it did. But still Calhoun.
This is just one of the many things we are learning from DNA. We have also learned there is more than one paternal Colquhoun branch out there.
