Colorblind Short Film Fund!

What Colorblind Is About – Colorblind is about the year 2035, the government has forced their citizens to wear Colorblind contacts to prevent a race war. In the film our protagonist Novina, is having trouble finding a job and still finds herself being discriminated against despite this change. But how? If everyone is supposedly colorblind? Find out.

Why this project: In 2019, I went in for an interview while the interview went well at the end I was asked “Could I change my hair?”. You see I was wearing extensions with an extremely loose curl pattern, nothing like my normal curl pattern. If she wouldn’t accept this hair on me, what would it be like when I had my natural fro out. With campaigns like the Crown Act, we must showcase how “small stories” of discrimination lead to larger systematic issues.

Funds: The funds will go towards paying the cast and crew, craft services, equipment, location cost, marketing, film festival fees, props (which we are currently making with a 3D model), hair, and costumes. The reason we are asking for 5,000 is that GoFundMe does take a percentage of all the funds we raise, and we want to make sure we are able to pay everyone an equitable wage for the work they have already put into the project and how much filming we have left to do!

About me - My name is Briana Bush, I am a senior theatre student at the University of Maryland, I created this film after taking Black Theatre 2 class. I founded First Edition Productions as way to have new voices heard that often get forgotten or not promoted. Our mission is to create original films written by women of color and members of the LGBTQ community. By doing this we hope to create art that challenges the way humanity thinks, empathizes, and uplifts one another. We create a haven for artists to innovate and create genuine pieces of art.
