Colon Cancer Survivor with Your Help & Prayers

My name is Christina and I am 43 years old. I am a wife and mother of 3 wonderful young children, Abigail 13, Hannah 9, and Ethan 4. My heart’s desire is to see them grow up, get married, have children of their own, and to grow old with my loving and devoted husband, Michael. In August of this year, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. As you can imagine, this was one of the hardest things to hear especially since I had already lost both my little sister and my dad to cancer. My heart broke when I thought of my three children growing up without their mom. 

It all began one night when I started having severe abdominal pain and vomiting. My husband rushed me to one of the after hours emergency clinics here in town. The doctors there ran blood tests and noticed that I was very anemic. My blood count was so low the doctors were not sure how I was still walking around without fainting. This was just the beginning. I was immediately sent to the main hospital in an ambulance to begin a blood transfusion. After running several CT scans and getting a colonoscopy, the doctors diagnosed me with colon cancer. I couldn’t believe it! We had just buried my dad last year who lost his battle to colon cancer, now my family was forced to deal with this enemy called cancer again. My mind began to race, ‘what will happen to my family’, how will my husband and three kids deal with this?’ I don’t mind admitting, I was scared. I began to pray, Lord please show me what to do, help me.

When I returned home from the hospital, I was determined to make some changes in my life, especially when it came to my diet. I completely, removed sugars, carbs, dairy, and started eating much healthier.  My husband, Michael, began this journey with me in every aspect started juicing, eating healthy meals and doing research on ways to fight this enemy called cancer. I called family and friends who had survived cancer and they shared with me their journey of how they overcame cancer. I prayed with my father in law whose a Pastor and he encouraged and shared with me scriptures on healing. I am so grateful for all the support and help from my loved ones, I know how blessed I am.

I recently went to another doctor for a second opinion. The doctors were happy with the results from the most recent tests, which showed that the cancer has not spread, which is a blessing, but it is not gone.  In the coming months, I need to travel out of the country to get treatment from doctors who are not covered by my insurance and receive medicine that is not covered either. We will not give up and we are determined to fight this.  

I’m sharing with you our story because we need your help. My husband is willing to do whatever he must do to get the help I need so that I can live but also have the quality of life that my children deserve. We need to continue to challenge traditional boundaries in the fight against cancer. 

I’ve chosen to seek a path to help fight this cancer through a non-conventional method. From my research, this type of method has a higher rate of success versus surgery, chemo, and radiation, we have quickly learned that our insurance will not cover some of the most critical aspects of my longer-term care, including many alternative and integrative therapies and experimental trials. For this to happen, we will need additional funding and support.
