The Co.Down based charity, the only one of its kind in Ireland, has helped repatriate the bodies of hundreds of Irish people who have died suddenly overseas. Like many charities, the trust was born out of personal tragedy and an altruistic desire to help others. Eithne and her husband Colin lost their vibrant 26-year old son Kevin in a hit-and-run accident in New York in 2013 and a huge fundraising effort was put in to effect, to help bring the body back to Ireland.
The Bells decided to set the cash aside for others facing crippling repatriation costs at a time when families are just struggling to cope with the shock of a sudden bereavement.
KBRT have now repatriated 1089 loves ones to their families in Ireland from countries worldwide such as Australia, Argentina, South Korea, USA, Canada, Ecuador, Cambodia, India, Uganda to name a few. The Trust repatriates approximately 15-20 loved ones back to Ireland per month.
The Trust operates on a 32 counties basis for all sides of the community, creed, color and circumstances of death.
Costs per repatriation can cost up to GBP 12,000 depending on the circumstances of the death, local charges and hospital release costs.
On March 10th this year, we all loss a great friend Colm (Gunner) Quinn to a tragic accident in New York, I for one want to take this moment to thank The Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund for all the enormously affecting work they do and did for Gunners and the Quinn Family. Their impact on grieving family and friends across the globe is simply immeasurable. What an amazing legacy for another young man lost far too soon. We thank the memory of Kevin and the effort of the Bell family from the bottoms of our hearts.
This fundraising/Charity event is to recognize the hard work and dedication that the Bells do for the whole of Ireland.
Missing my friend Gunner Quinn xx
