Collinsville IL Boys Basketball Replacement Season

HELP COLLINSVILLE BOYS BASKETBALL HAVE A BASKETBALL SEASON

Anyone familiar with basketball in the state of Illinois knows that Collinsville is first and foremost a basketball town.  Collinsville's rich basketball history includes famous coaches and players, state titles, national championships, and an incredible legacy of winning. To date, the Kahoks have won the second most varsity basketball games of any school in the history of Illinois - 2145 WINS!
In short, we are lucky to have one of the most storied programs in the entire state!

Last year, Collinsville's 2019-2020 Varsity team was one of the best Collinsville teams in the last 50 years.  The team accumulated a 31-3 record against some of the toughest teams in Illinois and Missouri.   The team had advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the class 4A (largest schools) state tournament when their season was unexpectedly and abruptly cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  The team, school, and especially the seniors of the 2020 class were left with unfulfilled dreams and will forever wonder what could have been if they would have been allowed to play for another week and finish the tournament.....

Since March of 2020, our country has learned much about Covid-19 and has adapted many things in life to allow us to maximize safety while returning to as much normalcy as possible.  One of these areas is youth sports including basketball.  42 states including every other Midwest state have allowed youth sports and basketball to resume after implementing strict and rigorous safety measures.  High school basketball games are currently being played safely in Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin.   Unfortunately, in November 2020 as Collinsville was about to start the boys basketball 2020-2021 season - the State of Illinois shut down school sponsored basketball in the entire state of Illinois.  Effectively cancelling our boys' season.

With the official winter school season cancelled, the parents of the players in Collinsville have banded together to form our own Collinsville basketball teams to play a replacement winter season.  We aren't allowed to be called "Kahoks" so we call the team the Collinsville "Hawks".  We have created 4 different teams at 4 different grade levels - Freshman, Sophomore, JV, and Varsity.  These teams will compete in leagues and tournaments out of state through March 2020 giving our boys a chance to play this school year.

Creating and funding the teams is difficult, time consuming, and an expensive endeavor.    Unit 10 school gyms are unavailable to us for any sports, therefore all gym time for practice must be rented at non-school locations.  Tournaments cost between $200 and $400.  Leagues cost between $600 and $1000 to enter.  Many tournaments are two day events far away in other states - Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Indianapolis, Quad Cities in Iowa - and require hotel stays.   The fees, travel costs, and hotel costs can be very hard for some parents to pay in these difficult times.

Each team has 10 Collinsville High School players (40 players total) and is currently scheduled to play in 8 league games, 2 tournaments, and have 2-3 practices weekly in the rental gyms.  When the combined cost is divided among all 10 players the total cost is $225 per player.  We used the fundraising goal of $9000 as that covers the $225 for all 40 players who will be playing on the 4 teams.

The varsity team is especially important to our 2021 seniors as this will allow them to have a senior season and additional looks from college coaches as they hope to continue their basketball careers at the next level.

-ALL COACHES ARE VOLUNTEER PARENTS OF THE PLAYERS
-NO COACHES ARE PAID AT ALL IN ANY WAY
-ALL MONEY GOES TO GAME FEES, TOURNAMENTS, GYM RENT, EQUIPMENT, or SAFETY EQUIPMENT (like masks, sanitizer, temperature guns)

Practices start January 4th and the games start January 9th, 2021 so if you are planning to donate, please do so as soon as possible as we start paying for the events on Monday January 4th.....

Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated as we work hard to keep Collinsville's basketball traditions alive and provide a season for the Collinsville basketball kids who have worked so hard to be a part of this great program.  THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING OUR FUNDRAISER AND THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT!
