Joshua Collins passed away suddenly this week. Josh was a Dad to 4 amazing kids, a husband to Christina, a hard worker, a coach, and my nephew. He was like many of the guys you work with or your neighbor across the street. We all have people like Josh in our social circles.
I have a special place in my heart for him, being family. He was not only my sister's kid- he was the very first baby I ever held. I lived with his mom when I was young and was there when Josh was born. For a few years we were more like brothers than uncle and nephew.
Josh moved to Lockport, NY several years ago and began to build a life. He had many of the same dreams we all do- find a princess, have kids and pets and a good job, and decent place to live. He had an amazing start to that dream. He has a modest house in Lockport with his wife, Christina and his 4 kids- Mea, Rylan, Chloe, and Charlie. Like many of us Josh and family hit some bumps in the road. He was recently unemployed and was having some real personal hardships.
This ask isn't just about Joshua, it is about his family. The family is in an unimaginable spot. Josh's passing was not planned for and the expenses to follow will be devastating. Christina has been the only source of income working part time. Since there was no job, there is no insurance to even cover basic burial expenses. There is no cushion to pay for housing, food, daycare, or basic transportation. Things are so tight that during the time the family will grieve his loss, their living situation could take a horrible turn.
The ask is to spare anything you can, as soon as you can. The family is trying to make funeral plans and even even modest burial can be as high as $8-10k. That isn't the only ask though....Im hoping we can raise more than just the funeral costs. It would be amazing to have a cushion for the family to get on their feet and figure out what is next.
When the kids look back on this time, I hope they are able to think about how they remembered the dad they loved and not have to think about the financial and family hardships caused by his passing.
Please donate anything you can.
