Our family is asking for your help and support as we rally around Collin McFadden, at age 56 he has recently been diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) — a severe, terminal lung disease with no cure.
IPF causes irreversible scarring of the lungs. Caused by his work in construction over the last 35 years from chemicals in the compound used for plastering. Collin’s condition has progressed quickly and he is now on oxygen at home and can no longer work. The only option is a double lung transplant, and he has now been placed under the care of the pre-transplant team in Halifax.
Because lung transplants can only be performed in Toronto, Collin And his wife Melody must relocate to Toronto to remain close to the transplant hospital and meet all pre-surgery requirements. They will need to live within two hours of the transplant centre, and the move must happen when the pre transpant work up is complete.
This is where we are asking for help.
Why We Need Support
Collin’s diagnosis has created urgent and overwhelming financial strain:
* He is unable to work due to his condition and oxygen dependence.
* His medication both pre and post transplant are very expensive and only a percentage is to-be covered
* He and his wife Mel must fund the move from Halifax to Toronto, including temporary housing, travel, and ongoing daily living expenses while they wait for transplant lungs to become available .
* Once in Toronto, they must remain there for months before and after the surgery for constant monitoring and medical care.
This is an unimaginable emotional and financial burden for a family already processing a life-changing diagnosis.
How Your Contribution Helps
Your generosity will help cover:
* Immediate relocation from Halifax to Toronto
* Temporary housing close to the transplant hospital
* Daily medication and other uncovered medical expenses
* Travel to and from medical appointments
* Basic living costs while Collin is unable to work
* Support for his caregiver during this difficult and uncertain journey
Every donation — no matter the amount — will directly support Collin’s financial needs so he can focus on the journey ahead.
