March 24, 2022 6yr old Collin was experiencing labored breathing and his mom brought him to his pediatrician to get looked at. Not knowing anything, This would be the worst day of their lives. Collin had a collapsed lung and a large tumor that took up his whole right chest cavity that was so large it was putting pressure on his heart. He was immediately admitted to CT children’s medical center and this is where Collin and his mom would spend the next 7 weeks. Collin was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. He underwent multiple medical Procedures and 8 very intense cycles of chemotherapy over the next few months. There were many ups and downs during this time and Collin always had a smile on his face. Collin’s team of doctors felt the tumor had shrunk enough that they would remove (the still very large) mass from his chest. On July 6, 2022 Collin had a 6.5 hour surgery and the tumor along with 3 ribs were successfully removed. Even after the tumor was removed he had to go through 6 more rounds of chemotherapy. Dec 2022 there was no evidence of disease in his body. His family thought the fight was over.
Over the past 12 months, Collin has had routine scans to make sure he remained healthy . He was able to be a kid again, attend school, play spring baseball and fall flag football.
Nov of this year Collin went in for his routine 1 year scan and a new tumor was detected on his diaphragm. After a 9.5hr surgery due to some unforeseen circumstances the mass was removed. Initial pathology findings were that no cancer cells were detected but once it was sent out for more intense testing, Ewing Sarcoma cells were detected meaning his cancer was back. Collin and his family are devastated that he needs to go through chemo again and this time he will also need radiation in Boston after his chemo at CCMC.
This time around Collin will go through 6 rounds of chemo estimated around 18weeks at CCMC where his team of doctors and nurses are. After he completes chemo he will need to head to Boston general for 6 weeks of proton radiation. Collin and his mom, Megan will need to live there during the treatment. This is a huge financial strain as Megan is a single mom and has needed to stop working to be Collin’s full time caretaker while also needing to support her older son Ethan and try to keep His routine as normal as possible. The back and forth to the hospital for chemo and follow up appointments has its own stressors. Any contribution to assist this family on the financial burden during this horrible time would be greatly appreciated. Let’s show them how supported they are and that there is an army standing behind them!!!
Now At the young age of 7, Collin has been through more than most adults. He has been an absolute rockstar never complaining, asking questions, finding a true bond with his doctors, nurses and surgeon. He continues to have a positive outlook on life collecting over 250 blankets last Xmas season for the children at CCMC. He never looks at himself as a victim but only as a superhero. He is the biggest, bravest, selfless, kindest, most affectionate little boy you will ever meet who loves SWAT, police and firefighters and he has been handed the most unfortunate circumstances imaginable.
