As Cheree’s mom, I ask for your prayers and financial support as Cheree and Jason do everything they can to fight for healthy identical twin baby boys; Christian and Brixton. At 16 weeks, they were diagnosed with Stage 2 Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Something we knew nothing about. After extensive research, we learned that this is a rare syndrome that only happens with identical twins that share a placenta. One baby (recipient) receives too much blood from the other baby (donor). It is a very dangerous syndrome that only happens in 1 out of 1,400 identical twin pregnancies.
Cheree was quickly referred to UCSF for consultation in hopes of having laser ablation surgery to correct the incorrect blood flow. Within 2 days, she was in SF having surgery. We were praying for great results. Unfortunately, due to bleeding a week before surgery, the amniotic fluid was discolored causing the surgery to be a challenge. She had a tough recovery but was able to come home 3 days later. We traveled back to SF for a follow up the following week to learn that the surgery was not successful. The twins still suffer from TTTS! The positive news was that Christian (donor) had gained weight and was the same exact size as his brother, Brixton (recipient). They also have strong heartbeats! They are fighting so hard to come into this beautiful world healthy little boys! This week during our next follow up appointment; the baby’s condition had still not improved.
We are doing everything we can to fight as hard as they are. We’ve been granted a second opinion to go see Dr. Chmait at Los Angeles Fetal Therapy. We’ve been told that they are the best in the Nation! Our hopes are to have the surgery again!
We need assistance with the costs associated with traveling to Los Angeles to seek this help. The costs will include traveling, airfare, food, lodging, etc. We’ve been told that we will be in Los Angeles for a minimum of a week and then another trip for follow up. Cheree has been put on bedrest and due to being self-employed, she is not eligible for disability. Jason will be unable to work during this time and any support you can provide is greatly appreciated!
Of course, we also ask for your prayers! We know God is in control and will guide us through this journey of TTTS! He has blessed us with so many wonderful family and friends that have already been such an incredible source of support.
