Alicia's College Fund
Donation protected
Please join us in funding Alicia Lewis' college fund. Alicia is a senior at "The Met High School" in Providence, RI who is graduating in June 2017 despite having spent her last year homeless. Due to circumstances beyond her control, she lost all family support emotionally, financially and physically at the beginning of her 2016 senior year at the MET. DCYF did not intervene as Alicia would be turning 18 in June 2017 and their resources are stretched thin with existing caseloads. Thus, she fell into the system's crack, where she was left completely on her own, unable to even get an ID or access healthcare until she turned 18.
Nevertheless, this is a story of triumph. Alicia handled this curveball not just by getting up each day and going to school, but by achieving marks of "exceeds expectations" in every subject (MET does not give letter grades). Even though she didn't always know where she would live, she made it to her internship every day on time and preformed her duties with a smile on her face. In fact, as we began to share her story, no one we spoke with had a clue she had been homeless.
Alicia's sheer perseverance has paid off and she will attend Rhode Island College this coming fall. She plans to study International Business Affairs and would like to start an organization one day to help young teens in her situation.
She needs your help to keep moving forward and accomplish her goal of a college degree. We are asking that you donate and help contribute to offset the tuition which is $8,776, books $500 and her initial deposit of $200.
Thanks in advance for your help.
No amount is too small. A little bit can be a lot for someone with nothing..
