Hi -- my name is Laura Caban and I am seeking assistance to help pay for my first year of college. I recently received my acceptance letter to Towson University where I will study Criminal Justice! I am in the JRTOC program at Broadneck High School and my future plans are to serve my community and our country in the Armed Forces. I have applied to many institutions for scholarships and financial aid, but unfortunately to date have only received a few hundred dollars.
As a student at Broadneck High School in Arnold, Maryland, I excelled in all of my classes and will graduate with a 3.6 GPA. I am enrolled in Honors classes in English, History and Spanish. Throughout my four years of high school I participated in the Navy JROTC program where I am a community service officer and assistant commander of the rifle team. I have had the honor of representing our school and unit in numerous competitions, where we have had great success. I also have held many leadership positions and responsibilities in the unit. Although very busy with my studies and the Navy JROTC program, I do volunteer services for the community, including the youth court program, and working in our neighborhood projects and activities. I work every other day as a cashier at Graul's, a small grocery market in Annapolis, which has allowed me to give my parents some money to support our household. At Towson, I will also be working to help pay my college expenses.
Receiving some financial help would be a great relief for me and my family. By coincidence I am happy to say that my mother has also decided this year to return to college this year. Although it will add to our financial difficulties, I am very proud of her! She is already very busy studying and holding down two jobs. I will be incredibly grateful for any contributions that I receive and will immediately direct them to my account at Towson to pay for my first year’s tuition. While at the university I will continue to vigorously apply for scholarships in the hopes of easing the burden.
Thank you in advance for your contribution and know that I am excited about going to school and eventually serving in the military.
