A member of our fraternity is in urgent need of legal and financial support after being personally named the sole target in a civil lawsuit stemming from a past chapter-organized retreat.

The event in question was a group trip, planned and attended by multiple members of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, Epsilon Lambda Chapter. However, due to his position as Social Chairman at the time, this member was the one who signed the venue rental agreement, making him the official point of contact and representative for the event. Despite the collective nature of the planning and attendance, he is now being held personally responsible in court for the alleged damages that occurred at the property.

The national fraternity, Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., has been notified but has declined to offer any legal or financial support for his defense.

This fundraiser is being launched to help cover; attorney retainer and legal counsel, court filing fees, drafting of legal responses and motions, ongoing legal representation, potential settlement or resolution costs.

The estimated cost of legal defense has already surpassed $5,000, with the total likely to increase as the case proceeds. As a college student, he is facing a financial burden far beyond his means, despite acting in a representative role on behalf of the chapter at the time.
