Tammy's memorial service will be on March 16 at 3PM, at St Matthew's Episcopal Church. Please read below for more information and the full obituary.
Tammy DeWitt Le, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away on February 16, 2019. She is survived by her husband Todd, daughter Lexie, son Dylan, mother Judy DeWitt, sister Jill Foreman, and brother TK DeWitt. Tammy lost her father Tom DeWitt in 2003.
Tammy was born in Newton, MA on December 28, 1970, and moved to Austin in 1978. She graduated from Anderson High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from UT Austin. After college she lived in Warsaw, Poland, where she worked teaching English. After moving back to Austin, she worked for several years in marketing, where Tammy met Todd. They married on May 8, 1999. Lexie was born in 2000, and Dylan in 2003. Tammy was a devoted stay-at-home mom with Lexie and Dylan during their early years. Tammy then partnered with her mom Judy to became a realtor. After Judy's retirement, Tammy specialized in the Wells Branch neighborhood, where she was recognized for her many contributions to that community.
Tammy was known to be an exceptionally generous and thoughtful person. She was always one to think of others; despite being busy with family and work, she delivered for Meals on Wheels every week for many years. Additionally, she was a tireless advocate and incredibly tough negotiator for her clients. She expected and delivered excellent service with all whom she worked. In any situation requiring top-notch bargaining skills, Tammy was who you would want at your side.
More than anything, Tammy loved her family. She embraced Todd's Vietnamese heritage, and the family took an amazing trip to Viet Nam in 2016. Tammy was the type of mom who played in the waves with the kids and let them bury her in the sand, rather than watching from a chair on the beach. She taught herself how to make outstanding vegan dishes to support Lexie, and attended all of Dylan's music performances. She participated in many of Lexie's YouTube videos, even if she didn’t think her appearance was especially flattering. Tammy allocated a part of their family room to Dylan's trombone practice, but would occasionally make him practice outside when his dedication became too much (as she would say:
"trombone is loud!"). She was so proud of her children: her daughter achieved her dream of attending college in New York City at Fordham University, and her son recently made Texas All-State band as just a sophomore. There are no words to express how much she will be missed.
A memorial service for Tammy will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Steck Ave on March 16 at 3PM, followed by an informal gathering honoring her life at the Foreman home, 2510 Hartford Road. We would like to request that people wear happy colors, and not black. Please RSVP to the informal gathering at this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/2275278179427452/
This is not a fundraiser and we are not seeking donations. However, the Les would prefer not to receive flowers. Often grieving families suggest donations to charities in lieu of flowers and they have already been asked what Tammy might have wanted. They believe that the most important cause for Tammy would have been that her children are able to attend college without extreme debt. Donations are not expected or requested, but if you would like to give something in remembrance of Tammy, please consider contributing to Lexie and Dylan‘s college fund.
