James P. Kowalski, 63, of Oakville died February 16 after a courageous fight with a long illness. James was born in Waterbury, the son of Felix and Lucienne Kowalski whom are predeceased. He was educated in the Watertown school system, and later attended the University of New Haven and the Connecticut Police Academy. He became a police officer in the town of Watertown and retired after 20 years of service. After his retirement, he continued his education at Goodwin learning computers and networking, and obtained a position at Porter and Chester Institute as a computer networking instructor. He was then promoted to education supervisor, and was at Porter and Chester for 18+ years. He was active in the Middlebury Police Social Club, and in the Watertown-Oakville Little League, soccer, and softball programs where he coached his children and grandchildren. Jim was an avid Yankees and NASCAR fan, and he attended the yearly race in Bristol, TN with his family and friends. His other passion was listening to rock and roll and blues, telling jokes, cooking, and entertaining family and friends. His biggest joys where his children, grandchildren, and wife Sandie. He was predeceased by his twin brother John. Jim leaves behind his beloved wife Sandie; his son Paul and his wife Jen of Southington; his son Kyle and his wife Jenny of Thomaston; and his daughter Trisha of Oakville. He also leaves behind 3 grandsons; Garrett, Brayden, and Lucas; and 2 granddaughters Natalie and Makayla. He is survived by his sister Phyllis Lutkus of Oakville, and brother Mike Kowalski of Bristol, Virginia. James is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws. He also leaves behind his beloved four legged friends Oliver, Dixie, and Shark. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the college funds of his grandchildren because James was passionate about education. Also, as Jim was such a generous person, please perform a random act of kindness in his honor.
